About Me

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) practicing as an intuitive psychotherapist. I am EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) Certified and a Reiki Level II Practitioner. I was born and raised in New Orleans, LA where I maintain one practice location and residence. In 2014 I felt an instant energetic pull to go to Los Angeles and open a practice and take up residence. When I did that, so many beautiful things have unfolded as a result of taking action on my instincts though I felt uncertain about uprooting myself after 43 years in New Orleans.

Los Angeles has welcomed me with her beautiful ocean, mountains, highways, and its wide array of healing practitioners. I fell into a community of others wanting to make a positive difference with Oasis Healing Center (, lectures by Marianne Williamson at the Saban Theater, and new friends that felt like we have known each other for a long time. I have lived and worked between New Orleans and Los Angeles since 2014 and my own life is richer and deeper, and I have expanded beyond my own boundaries and what I knew was possible. I have worked with thousands of individuals assisting them on their healing journeys to find a greater sense of inner peace and life purpose just like I am doing for myself.

In 2015 I was awarded a “Women of the Year Award” by New Orleans City Business for my book, “SURRENDER: A Psycho-Spiritual Healing Guide For Treating Depression and Anxiety.” There were 40 award recipients selected from over 400 nominations by business leaders, and it is an honor to have been chosen since the experience that fueled my book was something I initially experienced as a trauma that I allowed to became a gift as I navigated my own healing from being the victim of a crime. My personal journey of mitigating feelings of depression and anxiety led me to write the book. I wanted to be transparent and vulnerable by sharing my story to help others know they are not alone and can move through a trauma into wholeness. Mindfulness is a skill that allows us to explore the space between ourselves as both the observer and the observed. Tuning into that space can give us information about ourselves like “is there resistance, static, fear, hope?” We can meet ourselves there and pair a coping technique to the emotion in order to heal and deepen our awareness.

To promote my book and the work of others I started a weekly radio show in March 2016 on LA Talk Radio called, “ALL THINGS THERAPY with Lisa Tahir.” It’s becoming one of my favorite hours of the week! I get to interview people I admire and involve listeners in the dialogue we are having. I love hearing people’s stories and find inspiration in them. This is the link:

As part of my personal therapy in addition to various healing traditions I practice, I am a professional glass artist; you can visit to learn more. In 2010 I founded and opened a 501(c)3 called “The YES FOUNDATION, INC.” My foundation is a non-profit that teaches persons with disabilities in wheelchairs to cast and blow glass from a modified workbench I invented. My invention received a US Patent in March of 2016 after 6 years of work. Patents are awarded to just 16% of women in the US and it’s a great since of pride I have to have committed to my dream and see it come to fruition despite contemplating giving up at various roadblocks I encountered in the patent process. There is a Facebook page by the same name that you can “like” and follow progress as the website is released and fundraising efforts begin. I plan to leave “The YES FOUNDATION, INC.” as my gift and contribution to the world making glass art making ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant, as it is not currently. My bachelors degree is in working with people with disabilities, so combining it with my passion for the glass arts and my passion for personal growth and healing through therapy leave me with a fulfilled sense of living my life to all of my fullest potentials.

When not working, I enjoy driving along the CA coast, surfing, aerial silks for fitness, running, Bikram Yoga, reading, SCUBA diving, making art, spending time with my loved ones and with my two cats, Jiggy and Smelly Victoire.
